Jeffrey Hong McNeel Asia www.en.as.mcneel.com Workshop 23 Nov –26 Nov 2009 10:00am–6:00pm daily S$600.00 Paid entry The City Hall, Level 4, Courtroom 20 formTOobject is a four day workshop held in a studio setting. Its focus is generative design methods and fabrication of speculative objects and forms, and how those are used in product design, architecture, furniture, sculpture and interactive installations, among others. Participants will develop designs based on established and invented/experimental rules and methods derived from fields ranging from computational mathematics and biology, to natural/unnatural phenomena. The aim of this workshop is to empower local designers and artists to create designs using powerful tools within the new exciting field of computational design. The format includes daily intensive sessions focusing on Grasshopper, Rhinoceros’ parametric design plug-in. Besides designing these generative forms and objects on the computer, participants will produce rapid prototypes of their designs using either subtractive or additive methods (technology available will be based on other collaborators, partners and institutions). The instructors are Jeffrey Hong (from NTU’s Art, Design and Media programme) and Agnes Tan & W.K Lim (from McNeel Asia). Practitioners will be invited to guest lectures and critiques over the course of the workshop.
