Synopsis: This exhibition addresses the position of design as cultural artifact by examining the work of a select group of acclaimed Singaporean designers who have ventured into a broad range of design domains: object design, graphic design, illustration, interactive design, jewellery design and interior-exterior design. All have completed or are about to complete the Master of Design degree from College of Fine Arts (COFA) in Sydney, and their design outcomes are very much grounded in the culture in which they operate. Celebrate best practice in local design from some of COFA’s top graduates and come to understand part of the creative process and intention of design. COFA is one of Australia’s premier arts and design institutions. The Master of Design degree has been offered in Singapore since 2000 and now has an alumni of more than 80 graduates, who have gone on to become significant designers and educators across South-East Asia. Exhibiting designers: Soh Choi Yin, James Lee, Pat Lim, John Soo Keng Fatt, Josephine Tan-Eber, Wui Kong, Herman Yap, Nathan Yong, Zhang Wen Yi Design as a Cultural Artefact is curated by Dr Vaughan Rees and designed by the Singapore Creatives LAH (John Choo, Jason Chua Kim Heng, Kok Lam Wai, Ng Boon Yin, Seow Keng Tee, Tan Nang Yih and Lu Yan); presented by the Australian High Commission and COFA; and supported by Australian Education International Singapore. |
