Synopsis: Launched in Nov 2005, “ Singapore 1:1. City” exhibition initially presented a selection of significant works of architecture and urban design located in the Central Area over the last 40 years. Two years on, " Singapore 1:1" returns as " Singapore 1:1. (Island)" with a wider coverage of projects around Singapore. It features significant works of architecture and urban design located outside the Central Area from 1965 to the present day. Using drawings, photographs, conceptual sketches and models, the exhibition features works that range from residential to commercial buildings and public institutions. These works demonstrate the diversity, innovation, and creative energy of architectural talents working in Singapore. These works are also vivid reminders of the efforts and ambitions of a young nation at identity creation and creating spaces for all to live, work and play. While 40 years is not long in the context of many developed societies, it nonetheless spans the entire lifetime of post-independent Singapore. For this reason, it is an opportune time to stock-take the accomplishments of our built environment for the posterity of future generations. "Singapore 1:1 (Island)" exhibition is organised by Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), in collaboration with the Board of Architects (BOA), National University of Singapore (NUS), Real Estate Developers' Association of Singapore (REDAS) and the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA). The exhibition is curated by Dr Wong Yunn Chii, from the Department of Architecture, School of Design and Environment, NUS. |
